Privacy Policy

The UK Society for Behavioural Medicine is an academic society aiming to promote exchanges of scientific information and professional experience between social, behavioural and clinical scientists, as well as practitioners. UKSBM is a registered charity in the UK (OSCR SC044566; Charity Commission 1150669).

This privacy policy explains how we use any personal information we collect about you when become a member of UKSBM or register for our Annual Scientific Meeting.

UKSBM is committed to safeguarding the privacy of its members. We operate in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations 2018.

The information we collect

We may collect and process the following data about you:

  1. Information that you provide to us as a member of UKSBM, when you renew your membership with UKSBM or register for our Annual Scientific Meeting. This includes your name, affiliation and professional contact details.
  2. If you contact us, we may keep a record of any correspondence

We do not collect personal information about you when you are browsing through our site.

How we use this information

As a member, we use your data to provide you with our monthly newsletter and to inform you about society activities and events from time to time. We seek your permission to do so when you become a member of UKSM or renew your membership.

You may unsubscribe from this service at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in the footer of any email you receive from us, or by contacting the UKSBM membership secretary .

We will soon be developing a new web site where we anticipate members will be able to log in and manage their personal information and preferences directly.

Storing your personal data

We do our utmost to ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to make sure that your data is treated and stored securely. We will retain your data for as long as you are a member of UKSBM. If your membership expires we will contact you with the option of adding your name, contact details and membership number to our membership archive for 5 years. We keep this archive to help us manage our membership database and assign membership numbers. We never share data in our membership archive with third parties.

We use MailChimp as our email automation platform. By opting into our mailing list, you acknowledge that the information you provide will be transferred to MailChimp for processing in accordance with their Privacy Policy and Terms.

Our membership and meeting registration forms are hosted by KC Jones conference&events, a company that specialises in the management of conferences, events and communication programmes across the public and private sector. They collect and store your details including your name, affiliation and professional contact details with the permission and on behalf of UKSBM. KC Jones conference&events may contact you with the permission of and on behalf of UKSBM regarding society activities or events, such as the UKSM Annual Scientific Meeting.

Access to your information and correction

You have the right to request a copy of the information that we hold about you. If you would like a copy of some or all of your personal information, please contact the UKSBM membership secretary.

We want to make sure that your personal information is accurate and up to date. You may ask us to correct or remove information you think is inaccurate by contacting the UKSBM membership secretary.
